Tishan Mills is the Co-CEO & Co-Founder at QuickTapSurvey, a global SaaS business with thousands of customers in over 80 countries. Over the past 8 years, he has helped to build a profitable bootstrapped company that has recently been acquired by a U.S. based buyer.
Tishan is one of our new board members and we are thrilled to welcome him aboard. We sat down with him to chat about QuickTapSurvey, his Peerscale experience and what he hopes to bring to the board.
Tell us a little bit more about QuickTapSurvey and your entrepreneurial journey thus far.
I attended University of Waterloo and completed a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a Master’s in Computer Engineering. I had always wanted to start a company and, given my background, starting a tech company made a lot of sense.
I co-founded QuickTapSurvey with my business partner almost eight years ago. It is a SaaS software company that allows businesses to capture leads, collect customer feedback and more using mobile devices. We launched the business when the iPad first came out and we have been operating since then.
Within QuickTapSurvey, I am heavily focused on product development. We recently sold the company to an undisclosed U.S. buyer, but I will be continuing in my role as Co-CEO.
How did you first hear about Peerscale?
I heard about Peerscale through someone we had contacted for recruiting services. When she came in to chat with us, we started talking about Peerscale, which was called AceTech Ontario at that time.
Why did you decide to join Peerscale?
For both my partner and myself, QuickTapSurvey was our first real business and neither of us had a network of mentors or other successful entrepreneurs that we could lean on for advice or feedback. That is one thing that I have definitely gained from joining Peerscale – a relevant and reliable network.
I joined the organization in 2015 and have had a CEO membership with Peerscale for about two and a half years now.
What has your experience been thus far and how has joining Peerscale benefited you and your company?
The main benefit for myself is being able to talk to other entrepreneurs about the challenges that they face in their businesses. Even if we cannot solve all the challenges, it is great to hear that others are facing the same challenges as we are. We can then share ideas about potentially solving our problems.
In early 2017 I joined a new peergroup which was just starting out and that was great for a couple of reasons. I was able to join a group right at the start and we all received training on how to run these types of groups effectively, which is something Peerscale is now implementing across the organization. We learnt about the process, how to keep everything confidential and why it is better to share experiences as opposed to giving advice. I think it is extremely important to learn how to communicate effectively within these peergroups, if you want to get the most value as a member of Peerscale.
Why did you decide to join the Board of Directors and what do you hope to contribute to the board?
I have had a really great experience being a member of Peerscale and I would like to help with recruiting new members by conveying the value that Peerscale can add to their businesses.
